Description
People with measurement sense have an understanding of the “how much-ness” of different standard units. They have used and internalized measurement benchmarks, which allows them to judge other measurements. But students new to measurement systems have not had a chance to do this. Every measurement is a new experience, and may not relate to another yet. This can lead to difficulty in understanding new measurements, increasing frustration and decreasing engagement.
Measurement Benchmarks™ vocabulary cards are a way of solving this by helping students link a specific measurement idea (size, weight, length, etc.) to a personal experience or everyday object so they can easily remember the measurement. They’ll have much less trouble remembering that a centimeter is about the width of their pinkie finger, the benchmark illustrated right on the face of the “centimeter” card included in this set!
These full-color, coated cards cover the most commonly used measurements in both the metric and customary systems, each represented by a stylized artistic image of a benchmark on the face. The QR code on each card takes the user to a an interactive animation of the card deepening the understanding of the visual. The cards measure 11” x 4.25”, and are printed on coated cardstock so they can easily be used in teacher-lead reviews, small-group sessions, or posted on your word wall!
