Description
Studies show that most of us are visual learners. We remember and retain information more easily when it’s presented in positive, pleasant images, and even moreso when the images are vivid and colorful!
These award-winning Word of the Day™ vocabulary cards are all of the above, but to take it one step further, the images are specifically designed to look like the definition of the day’s word! The word “toxic” has a skull and crossbones for the “x,” and “decoy” has fun camouflage letters with a duck decoy in place of the letter “d.” This fun, visually-linked style continues through all of the cards, helping students create associations for even the hardest to remember words. The definitions are also included on the back allowing students to discuss and self-check.
There are many ways to incorporate Word of the Day™ into your daily routine. You can simply display one vocabulary word each day in the vinyl pocket provided and discuss briefly. In just those few minutes, you’ll see a marked difference in your students’ performance! You can also display cards with similar definitions together along a gradient line, discussing the subtle differences. Research has shown that learning words in combination helps improve retention. You can ask students to list synonyms and antonyms for the day’s word, have them use it in a sentence, or determine the part of speech. If the word has several parts of speech, you can discuss how this might affect the definitions. The possibilities are endless, and fit well into any time constraint!
Each card is 4.25” x 11”, printed on coated cardstock, and available in either the base set of 180 cards or a booster set of 60. When you purchase the base set cards, we’ll include one vinyl pocket to display the Word of the Day™!

If you want your students to actually understand the definitions and use the words when they write, then these are the absolute best products out there! I used them for 5 years and they improved our whole atmosphere when it came to English vocabulary. We loved them.

These products are exactly what I’ve been looking for to use with my English Learners to assist with their vocabulary development! My students laugh and love when I get the cards out. They help them remember English words that they were having difficulty with before I introduced them to the cards.
